17th Edition Wiring Regulations - BS7671 : 2008
1st July 2008 was a significant date for the electrical contracting industry and indeed for anyone who is likely to require the services of a competent electrician. It was the date when the 17th Edition of the Wiring Regulations (BS7671 : 2008) came into effect.
The new regulations were issued on 1st January 2008. This was followed by a 'transition period' where electricians could choose to work to either the 16th edition or the 17th edition. But, electrical installations designed after 30th June 2008 must comply with BS7671 : 2008 (the 17th edition).
It's important that your electrician is conversant with the new requirements - do check! the changes are quite significant!
